While our vacation last weke in Rome (Italy), we were not only visiting the city for airplane spotting, we found through good planning and a bit of luck some time to get to Fiumicino AIrport before we departed back to Amsterdam the following day.
Wir waren zwar nicht 5 Tage zum Spotten geflogen, die Prioritaet 1 lag bei der Stadt an sich, aber durch ein gut geplantes Programm haben wir es dann doch noch geschafft, am Donnerstag Mittag noch einen Abstecher nach Fiumicino (35km ausserhalb der Stadt) zu machen. Leider waren wir nur auf die Oeffentlichen Verkehrsmittel beschraenkt und wollten uns fuer einen Nachmittag auch kein extra Auto mieten, also blieb uns nur der Mc Donalds im Terminal 3 ueber, welcher uns wenigstens zwar sehr dreckige, aber immerhin rosse Fenster beschert hat. Das putzen haben wir dann mit Babyfeuchttuechern erledigt, uebrigens ein kleiner Geheimtipp, sehr effektiv bei Fettbeschmierten Fenstern.
We have not planned 5 days only for airplane spotting, priroity 1 was the city itself, but on Thursday noon we were able to step out to Fiumicino Airport.Unfortunately we were limited to public transport means and we didnt want torent a car for just one afternoon, so we were just able to go around the terminals and the panarama restaurant by McDonalds in Terminal 3.
If you would have been mobilized with a car, it would be possible to get into Fiumucino and take pictures alongside of the runway in some parking bays. It is adviseable to use some kind of "scoop and drive" tactics. The presency of Security forces, heavy and light armed all around the airport is obvious and you should be prepared for a snappy check of your identity card from them.As long as you do not break any rules, they will make no real problems as far as we have recognized.
Waere man mit eingener Befoerderung mobil, so koennte man nach Fiumicino reinfahren und dort in ein paar Parkbuchten direkt an der Runway mit seinem Mietwagen eine Art "Scoop and Drive" machen, auch auf dem Airport Gelaende eine sehr starke Prasenz an Sicherheitskraeften und man sollte immer seinen Ausweis dabei haben, so lange man aber nicht im Parkverbot oder an anderer verbotener Stelle, sollte man keine Ernsthaften Probleme mit den Sicherhetsorganen erhalten. Die meisten Schuetteln zwar mit dem Kopf, aber verziehen sich nachdem sie merken das man "nur" ein seltsamer Tourist ist.Ich zeige hier nun nur eine Auswahl der mir hochwertigsten Flieger aus Rome, das gruen weiss mit dem grossen A am Heck spare ich mir dann doch hier....

AIr France has announced by a newsletter email, that they will sell all Flightticket for the two inaugural flight of the A380 between Paris and New York Kenndy Airport effective Oktober 1st, 2009.
They will open an Ebay auction for each available seat and the win of these tickets will be taken for charibtable uses to support projects all over the world which will help sick and poor children.
If you want to get one of the first seats, go to AirFrance and check it yourself.
TO sad to write, but it seems to be reality:
Japan Airlines is planning to drop the Amsterdam router in the financial year 2010/2011. No further details are currently known, also JAL themselves did not confirm or deny the statement.
Hopefully they will change their minds in the meantime.

On Monday, a special kind of the security relevant incident of a Runway Incursion has taken place by some of my fellow "colleagues" while Spotting a Danish Air Transport airplane arriving at Hamburg Fuhlsbuettel Airport.
That Airport Employees have some special positions to make their photos, no problem, but as soon as these people are violating their own security rules andregulations and additionally risk not their own lifes with that but also the life of unguilty passengers, sorry, this is not okay dear "colleagues".
I hope everyone of you gets fired at the Airport, I have absolutely no understanding, that the already exclusive position at some airports are acessible for you guys, but if you break rules, you hae to be fined for this.
A spotter colleague from Hamburg has made a photo of this, perhaps you guys have an explanation for this and a good reason? I do not think that you guys had a valid reason to stay there and risk everybodys life's.....

As I am currently starting to collect some aviation models, this is my upcoming wishlist for Aircraft Models to get:
Lufthansa Regional, CRJ200 (as we fly with one of these nice and tiny planes before they disappear with Lufthansa Cityline)
B777-300ER, KLM in Skyteam Colours, still upcoming Model shortly available, but I want to get this one ASAP.
Of course this Jet also needs to be i my collection, PH-BXA.
As we fly with one of them over Christmas, Embraer 190 from KLM Cityhopper
As these Airplanes will sooner or later Disappear from Passenger Service, this of course needs to be in my collection.
And also the special colours Transavia from last Summer shall get a new owner:

Mr. O' Leary, Ryanair Chef und Hauptbesitzer, hat nun nach seiner gescheiterten Toilettenbenutzungsidee die naechste Geschmacklosigkeit vom Stapel gelassen.
Durch die neuesten Entwicklungen gerade auf dem Amerikanischen Airlinemarkt anscheinend benebelt, schlaegt Mr. O' Leary (CEO von Ryanair) nun vor, das uebergewichtige Passagiere, die "die Flugerfahrung und den Komfort Ihrer Sitznachbarn stark beeintraechtigen..." nun einen "Fettzuschlag" bezahlen.
Ich sage dazu nicht nur aus meiner persoenlichen Motivation, sondern auch aus Gruenden der Menschenrechte ganz klar
NEIN
zu den Plaenen vom Ryanair Chef und fordere jeden Leser hier ebenfalls auf sich klar von den schwachsinnigen und Menschenverachtenden Plaenen von Mr. O' Leary zu distanzieren.
Weiters rufe ich zum kompletten Boykott von Ryanair auf und fordere Mr. O' Leary in Dublin auf, endlich von seinem Postne abzutreten und fuer seine Menschenverachtenden, profitgierigen Plaene die Verantwortung zu uebernehmen.
Madame Tussauds in Amsterdam rufe ich auf, schonmal eine Figur von Ihm zu erstellen und am besten neben einem Diktator aus der Deutschen Historie zu platzieren, viel Unterschied haben die beiden Menschen nicht mehr von Ihrer Einstellung.....
Ich jedenfalls werde meinen Boykott auch umsetzen, beim Spotten werde ich zukuenftig keine Ryanair Maschine mehr aufnehmen und in keinem Fall bilder von Ryanair Flugzeugen auf meine Website hochladen oder verlinken.
