Japan Airlines (JAL) has declared bankruptcy as expected in the last weeks.
At the same time, the JAL CEO Haruka Nishimatsu has resigned from responsibilities of leading the bankrupt airline. JAL is still continueing to operate on all routes under government protection and supervision and it is planned to transfer the airline to the governmental ETIC agency, especially created to prevent a grounding of Japan Airlines.
JAL will now undergo a significant rebuild under the governmental supervision and it is planned to significantly reduce the size of fleet and international routes. Japan Airlines has been privatized in 1987 but never fullt able to gain positive revenue and it is currently having a debt of approximately 600 billion Euro with their creditors.
The Japan government has provided 4,6 billion Euro to recover and rebuild the airline in the next years, it is planned to reduce about 15.000 jobs while reorganization of JAL and it's subsidiaries.
